Upgrade from Lion Server to ML 10.8.1 Broke Mail server!

....10.8.1 OD seems to work, files and AFP available, but Mail server not working correctly. Now users don't see mail, postfix issues numerous errors about missing system_user_maps and delivers no mail? Must recover mails! Help! Where should I look, and what to read for Diagnosis ?

After upgrade in place from SL to Lion to ML. most services did not work correctly; except for Mail and DNS and OD. Reinstalled. Now most everything seems to work including Card Services, Calendars, Wiki, Web, DNS, OD. But Mail is off and missing??? No delivery of INcoming mail, No Sending Mail, no IMAP Mail login for users.

On Mail configuration in Server.App: Turned off All Filtering. Have rebooted Server several times, Restarted Mailserver from Server,app and Terninal. Same Results. Somewhere along the line from Server 10.5 to SL to Lion to 10.8 incoming Maill started going to user@PLG1.plg-law.com rather than simply user@plg-law.com.

Is it possible that virtual domains are fuzzing up the works? The error logs use the longer virtual domain (with the sevrer name prefix) rather than the domain name?

before you rebuild.. check out /etc

notice you hava aliases and aliases.db

I swear sometimes Apple does some funky mods..... with standard unix apps....

I wish sometimes Apple just left stuff the direct it was going in 10.6.8 Server...

Yes. Outgoing Mail from Apple Mail Client to Mailserver is now working!! Yes we are getting closer....now the SMTP server is giving the following informatiuon out rather than just rejecting incomoing mail:

Yes Aliaises files but NO aliais.db in either location! I guess I need to manually force rebuild of alias.db? How?

/var/mailman use to exist in Lion Server...

can you pull up timemachine.app and see if you can find it?

and how did you configure your mail aliases in lion workgroup manager?

haykong, in the mailman/data/aliases file there are just the aliases for mailman which represent the mailing lists made in the web interface...

yeah I know mailman was for mailing lists....

I was just curious why bpassan2007 had a reference of

hash:/var/mailman/data/aliases

If bpassan2007 created all his email aliases on workgroup manager.. then he can forgo the aliases file and make the aliases.db blank...

that's what I would do..

Yes. All my active aliases were created ONLY in Workgroup Manager under SL. My Mailman for mailing lists interface NEVER worked under SL or Lion. Did not use it.

So, that being the case, can I omit this line from Main.cf? Or what chnages should i make to implement?

ok. Hay....I see the correction you suggest to main.cf in your ealrier message. Implementing that now for new reference to aliases....

You can remove the line if you wish, but you can also implement Mailman by following the following manual:
