How can I do an archive and install

I have just put my new 1TB HDD in my macbook pro and I cannot enable FV2, something to do with a recovery partition. I have heard that a reinstall will work, so how can I do an archive and install on my MacBook pro?

Mid-2012, Mountain Lion.

Thank you.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion, 2.9GHz, 8GB RAM, 750 GB HD

I used to use A&I to get a new pristine version of the OS I was using.

Is this basically the same (without the old System Folder) under "How to reinstall just OS X":

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3251

Will this give me a pristine operating system?

In that case is running the Mountian Lion installer over OSX Lion also going to give me a pristine OS also?

I am looking to speed up my Mac and lose the occasional beach ball and A&I use to do that.

I should rephrase that:

As a hypothetical if I was running OS 8.6 and was experiencing slow behaviour and an occasional spinning beach ball I would do a Clean Install with my Install Disc.

8.1 would OVERWRITE 8.6 and my computer would be humming and I’d simply update to 8.6.

However, if I installed 9.1 over 8.6 with no Clean Install things would still be sluggish and the beach ball behaviour stayed.

-------

So does Mountain Lion OVERWRITE Lion upon installation or will it leave the bits and pieces from Lion that cause unwanted behaviour?

OR, should I reinstall Lion (which is similar to A&I) and then install Mountain Lion?

A&I went away with Snow Leopard. Reinstalling it or later OSs overwrites all OS components and basic Apple apps. Updating or upgrading to solve problems is the wrong approach, You need to fix the current issues before embarking on that path. As for speeding up things, see:

Thx Baitwo,

Most of these things I know about: I clean caches with Cocktail, use WhatSize to get rid of large files (I have enuff drive space), restart regularly, run Techtool Pro Suites regularly, ect.

Nonetheless A&I was a great help in eliminating issues.

It seems most of the beach ball behaviour is in Safari so I'll try the reset feature.

I just tested Firefox and it's much faster.

I'll use the information you supplied here:
