Can I unlock my iPhone 4S without the original sim card?

The unlock of your phone can only be done by your original carrier which seems to be telus. Every carrier has different conditions linked to the unlock for other networks. Some need the phone to have a certain age or need you to have an active contract with them. Some charge you a fee or need you to fill a form or verify, that you have left the country. I dont soecifically know, what telus requires, but they are definitly the only ones, who can make your phone accept other sim cards. Of course you'll still be able to use it with telus now.

You've got a real problem on your hands. You're gonna need a Telus sim to activate your phone, no way around that fact. If Telus has approved your unlocking request, once activated & restored in iTunes you should be good to go. But, bottom line, you need that Telus sim.

You should be able to ring Telus, giving them the IMEI number for the phone. With that number they should be able to unlock your iphone. Each company has different poilcies regarding this.

I dont know a carrier, who would do it over the phone without an existing contract to refer to, but see what they need. Maybe you'll find out from their homepage!

Hi Oshun9, I have done just that in Denmark with the company Telia, I unlocked my old 3GS over the phone so I could give it to a friend of mine. So I guess it can be done, all depends on the specific company policies. You are right the company homepage should give some guideline to that policy.

Imei is easy. At the first screen before the setup there is a round"i" button. When you press it you'll see the IMEI.

Only the carrier your phone is locked to can offically unlock it...no one else. Do anything else, & you are hacking your phone...voiding all warranty & support.

As I've already provided, you can't do anything with that phone until you get a Telus sim.

If the company is one of the main stream strores, like pcworld, O2, Dixons etc. I don't see why that cannot legitimately unlock your phone. But using a corner like store, my main concern would be that it was jailbroken and not unlocked. There is no harm in contacting Telus to find out what their procedures are. Personally I would try and use the original company first. Then make a decision from there.

Here's the deal if you go that route. If you ever attempt to update software or restore your phone, it will re-lock to Telus.

They can't, it's that simple. Only Telus can officially unlock that phone, NO ONE ELSE. Anything else is hacking, plain & simple.

Wjosten: I understand your point.. Those main stream stores are not allowed to jailbreak iphones, hence my thoughts. but I understand what you are saying.

BMcLean07: Listen to Wjosten. Just ring/email Telus and find out what the procedure is for unlocking your phone. Save any problems later. Thats what I would do, and clearly Wjosten would do. Good Luck.
