How big a spot? A single failed pixel in a flat-panel display can be fairly noticeable depending on background color. However, FP displays are not considered defective until a certain number show up, like five.
On the other hand, something larger where multiple pixels in the same area combine to creat a spot could indicate that sometihg has physically damaged the screen. Has the computer been bumped or exposed to people who don't respcte someones else's property.
Can you take a picure (not a screenshot) with a camera and then upload the image so we can get a better look at the situation?
Whether its random individual pixels failing or a lot in one area failing, it's a hardware issue that could be beyond your ability to fix at home. How about you give us a quick idea about your comfort level with opening a computer and working on the innards. Remember the G4 iMac is not an easy model for the average user to service. Improper reassembly can fry the whole thing.
