Hi, It doesn't matter if its video or jpeg images, when rendering I get the color pinwheel and the rendering is very slow. I am working on Mac G5 Power PC, 2.5GB memory, 16GB ram. I do not have other programs running in the background, so what could be causing this problem and how can I correct it? Greatly appreciate any suggestions since I am not sure what to do next. |

How are you viewing the output?
Does it show up in rendered output for delivery - or this only on the canvas?

Seq settings - 720 x 480, ration - NTSC - CCIR 601, field dom - lower (even)
codec - same as seq codec
Yes, it shows up on the output for delivery.
Also it seems to be pickup bits of images in the pixelation / distortion from other projects
How did you uninstall FCP?
Try trashing the render files for the problem project and re render.

I did one of the recommended uninstalls in a thread here.
I did trash alot of render files but the problem still appears. Some one told me to add more memory (currently running with 2.5GB) upgrading to 16GB, waiting for its arrival in the mail. Do you think this may correct the problem?
Any other suggestions?

I don't think extra memory will cure your particular problem, although more memory is always good.
FCP can only use 2.5 gig.

I doubt if it's a hardware issue.
What exactly is in your timeline ? how big are your stills and do you have any kind of motion graphics in there. Do all your clips match you sequence settings exactly.
I had a problem like this when I had some motion graphics sent by a colleague, I solved it by trashing the render files for the project, creating a new sequence and copying my old sequence over.

No motion graphics. Currently just working with jpegs however I did bring them into photoshop and sized them to work in the 720 x 486 format. I've actually tried every format, jpeg, psd, tiff, etc. same issue. I also just trashed a bunch of render files, did a new project and sequence with no new results. If this helps, the image below is what I am getting and it runs through out the sequence once everything is rendered.
Crikey ! that's worse than you described. Very colourful but weird.
Are your Stills in RGB colour space and not CYMK, I've never seen this before.

Well David, I like to be unique. Yes, everything is in RGB. I guess the odd thing about this colorful garbage is that it does it in a consistant pattern like every second or so and when everything is rendered. I am stumped!
Try creating a new user on your computer and start a new project with your stills, render them and see if the problem persists.
