Iphoto date change giving wrong date

When I try to change the date of a scanned photo I get a strange and incorrect date in response.

For example if I put in 25/01/1985 I get a return date of 12/11/573. Each time I try to input the correct date the return date is earlier and earlier.

I have tried changing the file date through terminal. I have tried resetting the system date but the changed photo date still won't move to the one I input.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

It's usually a problem with the Date format chosen in SystemPreferences

I tried resetting the system date format back to the default settings but it made no difference.

Do you (or anyone else) know what the settings should be?

I will keep working through the system settings but I don't hold much hope of stumbling on the right setting

Hi

Yep that is where I made the previous changes. I went back there and reset everything to default settings. I also went into the Date and Time pane and changed automatic time, date and zone settings on and off, trying various combinations. But no joy. The photo date won't accept the one I give it.

This is really annoying. I am otherwise very happy with the Mac. Such a shame that a part of the iPhoto functionality is ruined by this. I was looking forward to having my photos in chronological order.

Oh well. Hopefully Apple will do something to fix the issue soon.

Log into another user account on your Mac and see if you get the same problem in a library there. If so then it's system wide. If not then it's something just in your account.

My wife has encountered what appears to be the same problem. She has scanned pictures that were scanned by a service and she modified many of them yesterday to proper dates. It appeared that they took the new dates at the time.

Today she is back into iPhoto and all of the dates she entered are changed, but not back to the original scanned date, rather some other random date. Really strange, does sound like maybe a bug relating to scanned images?

Thanks RadMac. Seems that scanned photos are the problem. I haven't found a solution yet. I will post here if I ever do. I have sent a bug report to Apple though. Cheers

Try this with a couple copies of your scanned photos:

1 - download the Automator Convert to JPG and Embed sRG Profile application from Toad's Cellar and uncompress it.

2 - drop the scanned copies onto the application.

3 - import the converted files into iPhoto and try changing the dates as you want.

I have the same problem but not only scanned photos but also photos from cameras with wrong date settings. This has only happened after the latest 2 updates.

I appreciate the downloadable fix thru Toad's cellar but shouldn't iphoto work properly?

It is a bug and yes Apple should get it fixed. The recommended fix did not really work for my wife so I went in to talk to an Apple Genius.

After various tests, he said he wanted to try something based on something he learned elsewhere. IT WORKED FOR ME. He had us turn OFF the set date and time automatically setting in preferences.

As soon as we did that, we can change dates on any pictures, including those scanned ones, and the new date sticks.

Did you wife use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option of the Photos ➙ Adjust Date and Time... menu option? If it were the latter have her try the Batch Change.
