how do i watch/mirror a dvd, playing on my Mac Book pro, into my apple tv? . please help

I was sold the apple tv with the idea that my daughter could watch her dvd films on her own tv through mirrowing from her Mac Book Pro. To date she is unable to watch any dvds on her tv through apple tv. How can she transfer her playing dvds from her Mac Pro into her tv through airplay?.

I hvent quite figured it out this apple tv, it seems quite useless really.

Two things here.

1. Using a computer as a DVD player for feature length movies is never a good idea. The hardware is not ment of that kind of strain and the number of other things the computer has to do is almost always going to cause it to get in the way and intrupt the movie with notifcations and or cause it to hand and drag from time to time.

2. DVD player software is not allowed to display the movie to anything but the screen. So it will always be blocked on video ports and screen relfection options like air play. This is something the copyright holders require to be able to decrypt and play the DVD. Nothing Apple can do about it.

You can always RIP the DVD to an MPEG file on the computer which will work better, but takes several hours per DVD to RIP and starts to eatup a lot of disk space quickly.

If you have an iPhone or iPad you can play it using the App AirVideo from the app store.

Install the Air Video Server onto your iMac and then add your DVD drive to the available folders to view your media.

Once you have done this open up AirVideo on your iPhone or iPad and select airplay and convert. This sends it to your apple tv and converts the file whilst you are watching it.

You can watch lots of different files using this method. Or You'll have to rip them into your iTunes library first.

Use Hanbrake or DVD Shrink.

If it dosen't work, maybe your DVDs are protected type, try someother DVD ripper that can rip protected DVDs.

.That still requires ripping to an Apple TV compatible format first.
