How important is Core Image?

I currently have a video card that utilizes Quartz Extreme but not Core Image. I just ask on Adobe Photoshop forum if PSCS uses Core Image. The answer is no. So why do I care? What does getting a video card that will do that get me?

I use PSCS, Bridge, Illustrator. Plan on using LightRoom which is why I am upgrading to begin with.

As long as your work's final output does not include any kind of moving image (film/video/animation etc.) then you shouldn't worry about upgrading your video card soon...

CoreImage is a promising technology yet to be fully exploited and it's major niche is the moving image workflow...
