Missing display icon in menu bar after 10.8.1?

Missing display icon in menu bar after 10.8.1?

Hello -

Anyone else having this problem? The display icon on the menu bar (and hence ability to quickly change the display settings) has disappeared since I upgraded to 10.8.1. I can't find anywhere to turn it on now.

I have looked in the display preferences, but there is only a setting labeled 'Show mirroring options in menu bar when available'. I have this checked, but I've never seen the display icon since this upgrading..

Any ideas?

Kyle, I looked for it too and couldn't find it. There is a 3rd party app called switchresX that will put an icon up in the menubar and allow you to switch resolutions on your display.

System Preferences > Accessiblity > Display. Check " Show Accessibility option in the menu bar"

hpr3, that doesn't give you ability to change resolution. I didn't know you could change the accessability items from the menubar.

Fraid that's not the menu I was looking for.. It looked like a little monitor before..

I also missed the feature so badly that I wrote a replacement for the original monitors menu and put it on the Mac App Store:

Thanks for the link. I wish I knew how to make such things! 🙂

I actually switched to another external monitor and now I really don't need to alter my display settings as much as before. So, I really don't need it now..

I was mainly curious if/why Apple dropped the option for a display menu bar with the newest update. It was useful for me at one time..

Oh well.. who knows.

Thanks.. That is just so brilliant you just solved my problem,I thought I would have to keep going into display preferences every time I needed to watch a film on my H.D. Television.

You gave the wrong guy props. MiG_Tho wrote and published the Display Menu app and his comment followed the one you marked as the solution. That one pointed you to MiG's work.
