Would this cause my battery life to go bye bye?

Hey Folks, i have a iphone 4s. Love it. Love it. Love it. Well 2 nights ago I got a message saying that I was close to filling up my HD. I have a 16 gig iPhone.

So the 1st thing I did was plug the phone into my macbook. Thus moving all my photos off my phone over to iphoto. That didn't really clear up too much space so I removed about 10 apps that I don't use. that freed up about 1.5 gig.

Ever since then.... my battery life is bad. Bad in the sense that I had 50% when I went to be and woke up and the phone was dead. I took my kid for a 1 hour walk this am and lost 16%. I wasn't even using the phone during the walk.

I searched the forums and saw that maybe I should turn off location navigation (or whatever its called) but that hasn't helped.

Any thoughts?

Also, I have heard that Apple Support does great things.... think they would replace?

Lastly, if you were to get a new phone.... are you able to get all the apps you paid for again?

Cheers!

If your battery has gone kaput!

1st: Book an appointment with your local Apple Store

2nd Evaluate your battery life

Last resort: Service your iPhone by Apple

Talking about a replacement is premature. Let's try to figure out why your battery is draining quickly first.

When my battery was draining fast on two separate occasions, the causes were: (1) a stuck podcast download, and (2) a stuck web page download. Check the iTunes store on your phone to see if you are downloading anything. You may also want to go into the store settings and turn off automatic downloads. On 2, check to be sure all the browser windows are closed.

Tgara, my battery was 100% charged 90 mins ago. I unplugged from the charger and made sure no apps were running in the background. I also made sure I had no open browsers nor any stuck app downloads.

90 mins later (and after not using it at all) it is down to 71%. Does this seem normal?

I just feel it has to do with what I did Friday night. (See above).

I think my next step will be to just Restore my iPod to brand new and see if the battery drains as fast as it does now? Before Friday the battery would stay at 100-98% for at least an hour (if I didn't touch it).

Once again I very much appreciate everyones input. I love my iphone but its buggin' the h3ll out of me. Grrrrrr!

Cheers,
KM

Karl Marx,

Comrade Lenin and I agree that the discharge is fast. However I am not convinced yet that the battery or phone is faulty. Usually when thse thing happen, it is because of a software problem. Have you tried shutting down all the apps and doing a reset on the phone? I would try this first before doing the Restore that Brad suggested. Do you know how to do a reset?

Comrade,

First shut down all the apps. Open te multitask bar by pressing the home button twice. At the bottom of the screen you will see all the open apps. Nap and hold any one of tem until they start to jiggle. Then tap the red x on each app to force quit them. When the are all closed, press the home button again.

Now for te reset. Here, just simultaneously hold down the home and power buttons, and keep holding tem until you see the white Apple logo. It takes 5-7 seconds. Then release the buttons and let the phone reset. in less than a minute you will see your home or lock screen again.

It is impossible to shut down built in apps. It's also impossible to shutdown queued Internet transfers from apps that may be shut down. Most likely one of these is your problem. What sometimes helps is to run the battery all the way down until the phone shuts off, which DOES terminate queued data transfers and also recalibrates the battery gauge. After it shuts off and refuses to restart charge for 4 hours with the wall charger (even if it shows 100% in less than 4 hours).

It might comfort you to know you are not alone.

Most people had a problem after an update but every case seems different. I would suggest setting up IOS 6 as a new phone as soon as its released and see if that helps. Then slowly put things back on checking if it affects battery life each time.

Best of luck!
