how do I retrieve lost bookmarks?

last time I synced my iPhone to my iTunes account my bookmarks got cleared. I synced it again to see if they would come back, but seem to be lost and not backed up anywhere? could the problem be because my laptop doesn't have working Internet or not? everything else on my phone is the same though. the bookmarks were previously saved on my iPhone. does anyone know how I can get them back?
