How do I shut down Parallels Desktop?

How can I uninstall the current Parallels 7 so I can install the Parallels 8?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1), Have Parallels and Microsoft 7.

You do not want to do that. Just install PD 8 it will upgrade the old Parallels 7 application and everything will be intact.

I am not sure about your subject line? Quit any open virtual environment first then quit Parallels from the dropdown menu.

I have to stop the current version 7 first before I CAN RUN AN INSTALLATION FOR THE VERSION 8.
