how to remove engraved name from itouch
i plan to sell my itouch which was engraved with my name "free" when I purhcased it. Is there any easy way to have that removed?

Vigorously polishing the area with metal polish.
a better suggestion than "totally destroying" one. However I think I may have to go to a jeweler who does engraving. I think these ipods were laser engraved and a jeweler uses more of an etching tool. The cost may make trying to sell it a break-even deal.
Is it your full name? Is there anything that can attach it to you other than that?
If not it might be worth just knocking the price down a little to sell it, just mention it is engraved that is why you are selling it slightly cheaper. There's quite a few out there who really would't care there is an engraving on the back as they will likely use a case to protect it anyway, or for a little less than the standard second hand price they would not care either.
Yes it is my full name, actually the same as listed in the telephone book, so it is no secret. You may be right--I have never used a case, but it is in really good condition--maybe I can add an inexpensive case.
In the military I had a number of pieces of engraved brass for my dress uniform that I polish with metal polish. The use of metal polish on the engraving never did anything to fade the engraving hence the reason I suggested that you would need an abrasive instead of a polish.

Thanks for your help. I have actually found complete instructions on ehow.com "How to Remove iPod Engraving." It involves using progressively finer grit waterproof sandpaper over the entire back (after it has been removed from the iPod, and it tells how to do that too). Once I have my new iPhone in hand, I will attempt it. Thanks everybody for your suggestions.
