my son hasnt touched his ipod touch for a while and it became disabled. I tried to set it back to factory settings but it will not allow me to. is it still possible to fix it ?

I followed it exactly
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
