Wireless printer setup and password

I have setup my HP 8600 wireless printer via my Lynksys router to my PC. Now I haved added the software to my Macbook Pro and added the printer to the network. Why wasn't I prompted for my network name and password? Is there a security risk.

I'm not familiar with macs. Doing this for my daughter who has gone back to school and is sharing the computer.
