does my imac support 3gb ram

look guys the thing is my system is the imac 17 inch intel core 2 duo 1.83 ghz late 2006

when i go to my imac manuals on apple site it and put my serial number in of my imac it says it supports 3gb ram

right now i have 2gb ram only on one slot i have another 1gb memory that i put to my imac and it apears to not work

but i dont know because i have heard that you have to have the memorys match as in size 2x2 but it will take 3gb only from there is that how is gonna work putting them pairs 2x2g because it appers that my system supports 2g per slot and one other thing the memory i got installed has a name on it for example the name on it will be kingston on it on the 2gb i got installed and the other one wich is the 1gb i want to installe but doesnt work says another type of name it means its not same manufacture i mean is the same as in 200 pin so dimm pc2 -500 like that is all the same but the name is just diffrent i dont know if that also will make the 1gb not work because of its different name or something or the imac doesnt recognizes at same name or diffrent voltage from the other one i dont know please guys help should i installe the 2x2g so it can work or???????

Your iMac only supports PC2-5300 modules with the following > Memory Specifications

Lots of folks have had trouble with Kingston value RAM and your best bet for a good upgrade to 3GB is from > OWC

There is a slight advantage in installing a matching 4GB (2+2) kit instead of 3GB (1+2) even though it will only access 3GB, see > Understanding Intel Mac RAM - Mac Guides

hi there again i went to the understanding intel mac ram mac guides and it says it clearly it says intel Core 2 Duo Macs can run a 3 GB configuration (1 GB + 2 GB) and i also went to the OWC, webpage and they state that

3.0GB (1GB + 2GB Module Set) Upgrade kit for all Apple 'Core 2 Duo' 1.83GHz, 2.0GHz, 2.16GHz, 2.33GHz MacBook, MacBook Pro, and this will be an iMac upgrade option for imac intel core 2 duo 17, 20, 24

so when i go to apple website and search my imac model specs it says maximum 2gb okay. but when i go and check my imac manuals and put my serial code in it says 3gb max 1gb+2gb total of 3gb and one thing i would want to point out is that mines is working with a 2gb stick on one slot so mines supports up to 2gb per slot so what do you think i should buy it owc they say its compatible with 3gb max but 2gb x 2gb not supported so it makes me think its because of the kingston i have you guys said kingston brings lots of trouble and also the diffrence in names wich makes them diffrent thanks guys hope you reply

If that is indeed the 5,2 iMac model, then it is lumped in with the Earlier 2006 4,1 and 4,2 iMac models that actually only support 2GB of RAM...?

see > iMac (Early 2006), iMac (Mid 2006), iMac (17-inch Late 2006 CD): Memory Specifications

Personally at this point, I'd call or chat with OWCs Tech Support and find out what configuration that they have tested in that model up to.

see > OWC Customer Service

Another clue that might also partly solve this dilemma, is to test the 2GB RAM that you have with 1 of the factory modules to see if it will see 2 plus the factory or only 2GB.

Hi.

I have a white iMac 20-inch (Late 2006) with Intel core2Duo 2.16GHZ Processor and I want to upgrade my memory. My system reports for memory these:

Memory Slots:

ECC: Disabled

BANK 0/DIMM0:

Size: 1 GB

Type: DDR2 SDRAM

Speed: 667 MHz

Status: OK

Manufacturer: 0xCE00000000000000

Part Number: 0x4D342037305432393533435A332D43453620

Serial Number: 0xF71B7551

BANK 1/DIMM1:

Size: 1 GB

Type: DDR2 SDRAM

Speed: 667 MHz

Status: OK

Manufacturer: 0xCE00000000000000

Part Number: 0x4D342037305432393533435A332D43453620

Serial Number: 0xF71B73E1

I have read a lot of things about this, but I was wondering which is the best choice for this upgrade.

My questions are:

-Can I install DDR2 SDRAM or SO-DIMM DDR2 or both?

(Here apple writes and copability for DDR3 SDRAM for my model???)

-I have read that iMacs with installed 4GB Memory (2GB+2GB )have better response and speed from these with 2GB+1GB Memory. Is that true?

-I have to looking for dual channel memory or not?

-Memory's speed must be 667MHZ or 800MHZ or both of them can be istalled to my machine (not at the same time)?

-My memory must have 200pin?Because SDRAM DDR2 have 240pin!

-And finally memory's voltage must be 1,5V or 1,8V?

Please can you help me?

I know these comments are old.. but I, too, just recently bought an iMac 5,2... I am piecing together that this was some sort of EDUCATIONAL version? and not what I needed (handicapped graphics)...

But.. I bought a 4gb Kit only to open the RAM DOOR to find that only ONE of the modules kicks out with the levers... Is that the way it's supposed to be? Or should I be able to replace both modules?

BTW, it does not see my second module at all...

Any advice welcome...
