Clean the iPhone charging port with a clean dry toothbrush.

Short circuit is bad for iPhone. You want to avoid short circuit.

    If all else fails,

We ae going to Force Restore your iPhone,

Hold the Home button and the On/Off button.

Keep holding, ignore the red slider and the Apple logo, just keep holding until you see the    Connect to iTunes logo,

Then connect to computer/Mac and restore from backup,

Or you could just keeping holding the Home button and the Off/On button until the iPhone turns off.

    Hope it worked!

Dust, dirt, debris are bridging port pins, shorting them together, cleaning removes this interference.

what is a short circuit and how do i avoid that?

  • ariellechristina13 Level 1 (0 points)

great thank you so much for your help ill be sure to clean the charging port every once in a while from now on, could this also be the reason for the notice "charging is not supported with this accessory" when i plug it into my car or wall charger?

  • brad805 Level 5 (7,340 points)

Yes, that is also most common cause of Accessory Message. iPhone 4S have higher failure rates of charge port than previous iPhones, keep your eye on it.

Amazing! I've seen you on threads in the iPhone Hardware Section so I believed your resolution is going to work. Now I know why. Thanks.

I had a corrupt app that was causing this problem and fast draining battery, installed a new app and now works great.

OK, just adding to a preexisting thread here. We have SAME problem. It is my wife's 4s, shuts down, turns right back on (unless plugged in) Ios6 installed... Pretty sure its hardware...

Also, when left in "sleep" (screen off) it will randomly turn on, and flash an error saying "wifi is required for downloading of apps" Odd, because, nothing is downloading...and we had just fine wifi connection That's Not the exact text, but thats the gist of it. It Eats battery...

Ive already opened a "call later" case, but thought id snoop around and see if theres anything else to try. Before calling in for support (which i prefer not to IE: loathe)

    I have tried:

    -hard shutdown.

    -let battery drain

    -clean charge port

    -restart when plugged in

-COMPLETE wipe and restore from cloud. ( we do not plug them into computers)

fairly certain this has to do with that charge port....is there a certain area in there i could check for a short/bent pins? I work on electronics, so not afraid to have a go.....

Anything else? or is it new phone time?

    -Eric
