Q: In point 6 it tells me to go to the /library/update folder, but I don't have one, so how can I delete as it is still stalling during the installation process.

I tried the trouble shooting steps but when I get to point 6 I have no / library/update folder. I restarted the computer again and tried the software up date and it is still stalling. Any idea how to fix this problem?

Have you tried downloading the 10.5.8 combo directly from this link. After, double click on it to install.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866

It is a good idea to not run any other applications while the installation is in process.
