When things get messed up for no apparent reason, it sometimes helps to just delete the account and then reenter the account information so it is all clean.
Also, you might want to check if there is a port specified for your incoming mail and if the provider has changed the port number without telling you.
Open Mail, click Mailbox click Take All Accounts Online.
Tried that three times, along with rebooting, closing and re-opening the mail application.
This is very strange: I have received the emails from Apple support today, and I can send mail to myself and receive it today, but there is a clump of mail in my ATT mail account (my ISP/ mail hoster) that has not been collected by my iMac...
Also, the outbound mail is alwayse asking me to log in when I send, like its default is to go offline.
GRrr
Well... it's working now for no apparent reason... lovely.
Thanks all!
