Sep 13, 2012 6:10 AM in response to planb77by weblizard,I have the same problem- the menu-center button reset doesn't work.
The screen shows the lock, even though I have switched the hold button on and off. It isn't acknowledged when plugged into the desktop computer. At this point all I can think to do is wait until the battery totally discharges, then start it up again. That should only take a day or two, since I can't play it...
Open to suggestions!

That is correct. Or if the iPod appears in iTunes, try restoring it to factory settings. If the problem still persists you can be sure that it's hardware related. Most likely the hold switch needs service/replacement.
