DVD Studio Pro 4 Output Format
DVD SP4 creates a disc in Unversal Disc Format that my Blu Ray Player does not recognise. How can Imake a disc that it will recognise.
Thanks

Your blu-ray player should be able to read any standard DVD as well as blu-ray. Can a regular DVD player recognrize it?
See if DVDSP created a HVDVD_TS folder. (Or see if your DVDSP project settings are set to HD DVD.) It may be that you have burned a HD DVD disk.

Hello Brad
The disc won't play in either my BluRay or Standard DVD Player. It opens Quicktime Player immediately when in the computer.
Hello Russ
Yes the disc has a HVDVD_TS folder within it.
Oops I should have said DVD Player
Roy
Roy,
That's why it won't play on a Blu Ray. You need a HDDVD player to play the disk and that format is obsolete (lost out to Blu-Ray).
You need to change your project settings to SD DVD in Preferences.
Those settings changes apply prospectively, so you'll have to make a new project.
Good luck.
Russ
Thanks Russ
Does this mean the disc will then be Standard Def?

Yes. The DVD-Video spec only allows for standard definition.
If you want to deliver HD content on playable optical disc, you can create a Blu-ray disc or even a Blu-ray compatible disc using standard DVD-5 discs. However, using DVD-5 discs will limit the content to about 30 minutes. Also note that Blu-ray discs and Blu-ray compatible discs will only play in Blu-ray players. They will not play in DVD players. DVD players will only play properly authored, standard definition DVD discs.

Thanks David
I am wanting to put 3 short HD videos onto a SD DVD disc. I have used the FCP Share - Make Blu Ray facility but I assume this only caters for 1 video, I will try this method but with putting 3 videos onto the time line and adding Chapter markers, but I would prefer to have more control over the Menu. Any ideas where I should go from here?
Roy
Toast Titanium Pro (version 10 or higher) will give you BR disks with simple preset menus.
Adobe Encore (part of CS5 or CS6) will gve you something approaching the level of control in DVD SP.
Rovi Scenarist BD will give you everything and more. It will also make a huge dent in your finances.
Hi, I make the authoring in DVD Studio Pro 4. All is in HD. Then I burn the disc directly from DVD Studio Pro, but my Blue-Ray DVD player doesn't play it! It is recognized as to be a DVD Rom. Instead, If I drag the HVDVD_TS to Toast Titanium 11.1 the story is the same! But the same procedure was Ok with the SD DVD standard. Is anybody able to help me understand? I think everything has been checked in DVD Studio Pro as well as in Toast. Thank you for any help!!!
Because the HD DVD format is only playable on your Mac and some obsolete players that Toshiba stopped manufacturing years ago. It is not compatible with standard DVD or Blu-Ray devices.
Hi Nick, I totally agree with you, but if I drag the .mov file (got from FinalCut Pro) directly to Toast, bypassing DVD Studio Pro, a great HD DVD comes out, but it hasn't all the DVD Studio Pro menù!!! I really don't understand what goes wrong when I put my HVDVD_TS or the .img files in Toast... I need all the authoring job from DVD Studio Pro, but I'm not able to get a HD DVD with all the menù...

You arent listening Luigi ! 🙂
HD DVDs are a dead format. You DO NOT want to make one. Forget DVDSP and use another tool like toast to make a Blu Ray
