I have a apple ID but used my Gmail account and face time can't verify the Gmail account

I have a problem logging into face time. I have created a apple id using my gmail address but with a different code. Face time can't verify my account.

What should I do?

I tried change my email for my apple id but that did not work.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
