How to put music from classic iPod on to new mac?

I have an old iPod classic and recently acquired a second-hand macbook pro (I'm not sure if an iPod has ever been sync'd to the iTunes on this computer). My iPod used to be sync'd to my old windows computer which has long since crashed so I am incapable of turning on the computer it used to be sync'd to so deauthorizing it from the other computer or whatever is out of the question. I'm also not very keen on spending money on some program to complete this task. So how would I go about doing this?
