Q: I cant get my new time capsule to work in place of my air extreme.. Help

I bought a 2t capsule to replace my still working but old extreme ( wanted back up). It tells me to contact internet provider because of invalid IP address; and sez the DNS settings are missing.  I am not very savvy and have an idea what all that is but don't know how to repair...  I followed instructions, and then a common internet suggestion of exporting settings from extreme and importing into capsule, but that changed nothing.  No point I believe in contacting provider, because if I hook up the extreme it is fine, so I am getting good service?

I don't know what to do about the DNS or why this isn't setting up automatically....

Please advise!

If you have a cable modem.. you must shut down the modem .. plug in the TC.. and restart the modem.. check if the TC has a proper IP on the wan interface.. the summary page in airport utility will show you this.

If it still doesn't work you need to shut down for longer periods of time.. try 15min then overnight. Start the modem then restart the TC which must be the only device plugged in.

If this doesn't work or you have different type of broadband.. we need a whole lot more info. We cannot solve by magic.. repairo in my experience doesn't work.
