iBook G3 connects to ethernet but doesn't work

I had wireless issues and realized that I wasn't going to get this to connect with 10.3 os x. So I decided to just used wired ethernet. I definitely had this hooked up a couple years back. Now it says Built-in Ethernet is currently active and has the IP Address and gives me valid IP and says I am connected to internet. But when I open Safari it immediately says whatever server of the site I visit can't connect. Help....
