Q: Export iPhone contacts to Excel (CSV or XLS)?

I wish to export all my iphone contact data to a single excel worksheet. Is there a way to export the data to an xls or a csv format (not separate csv files for each contact). I have the contacts in both my iPhone and the iCloud, but iCloud allows export as a vCard only.

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

The best solution after a lot search that suited my requirement was to download an App "contacts kit" on to the iPhone. Extract all the contacts from iPhone (across groups) in .csv file, mail it to your email id and then import it into contacts on the iMac.

This worked smooth as a whistle.

    regards

I spoke with Apple to get the answer to converting Apple contacts to .csv. The first step is to select desired entries from your Contacts. (I selected all.) Next go into Numbers and clear all the columns and rows by clicking on dot in upper left hand corner of the table and select Cut. Now, drag and drop selected contacts onto the empty numbers screen. Finally, after examining and editing your result, simply select File>Export to csv. The support person says that she hears it works with Excel too, but I plan to just convert from Numbers as I couldn't the contacts to drag and drop directly.

Copy Trans will only export 50 contacts for free (or 150 if you advertise for them on FaceBook) for something that APPLE should provide for FREE (or its $19.95/29.95 for a partial package of their software - not even the full version) - for something that I have not even been shown works)!  File transfer should be easy and straight forward and have no added charges...how are businesses supposed to continue investing in apple products if they continue making it impossible to do simple things like exporting contacts lists.

I am rather angry as I write this.  I need to create a ONE time backup of my contacts to EXCEL/ACCESS to automate a part of my office.  I have downloaded itunes, which is supposed to do this ... but I cannot find it in the menu system, I have installed icloud on a laptop I borrowed and it didn't work. I just need to do my job...I dont want or need music or need to be "{PUSHED}" into purchasing things that are routine for other vendors.  Why make it easier for Droid to continue chipping away at market share apple?

Ok, venting done...does anyone have a straight forward free (non-infected) solution?  I only have 320 contacts on this phone.

Where are your contacts kept?  iCloud?  Google?  Just on the iPhone (i.e. not linked to any email account)?

If they're in iCloud, use your computer to go to www.icloud.com and select Contacts, then select all contacts and export as a single .vcard file.  You can try fiddling with .vcard to see if you can get to the promised land, but if you can't get that into Excel or Access then try importing .vcard into a Gmail account, then export from Gmail to .csv format.

It is difficult to understand why Apple does not make this a free service. It should be a simple process to download contacts to a spreadsheet, clean them up, and reload them to the Iphone. I guess Apple doesn't care.
