Restoring from older backup

Can I restore my iPad to an older backup? I hooked up my iPad to restore it to the last backup, but it auto synced and created a new backup. If I go into Edit/Preferences/Devices I see a list of backups. Can I delete the current backup and restore to the previous?

Right click on the name of your iPad in the Devices list of the iTunes app on your computer and choose Restore from Backup. You should then be able to choose which backup to use.

First things first, in order to prevn a repeat of what happened go to Edit, click on Preferences [iTunes and Preferences on Macs] and click on Devices. Put a check mark in the box next to "Prevent iPods/iPhones/iPads from syncing automatically" you can always perform your sync manually.

Yes, selecting another backup automatically replaces what is on your device. Is the backup you refer from another device? Mine iTunes only retains the last backup of my iPad. You can increase this with iCloud!

Aren't the photos saved in the iTunes backup? It may not have all of them, but when you back up your phone I think if you restore from a previous backup then you could possibly retrive them. I may be wrong, but I read somewhere a long time ago that it was an option. Have you ever backed up; not sync'd but backed up?
Once you do that, grab those photos (if it works) and then restore from the latest backup. Of course, you want to back up today then grab that previous backup. It is worth a try imo.
