iCloud has been down for 10 hours...
I am amazed and frustrated by this situation -- does anyone know what is going on? Is there another way to access email?

I'm having the same issue. Apple should at least notify us on an alternate email that they're working to fix the problem.
Me too...since 6 am this morning. I had a tweet that said today they were upgrading Lion and Icloud...could this be the problem...how many people must be affected? I don't understand why there's nothing being said on discussions apple?
Same problem. I do expect some info from Apple server center!
You can check iCloud status here:

This morning, Apple is reporting some problems with email and notes.
Matt
Yeah, not really helpful, but thanks anyway.
Converted my account back to GMail. iCloud has been so unreliable I can't take it any more. This is what? The 3rd major outage in the last 6 mos. Google are flawless. Will anyone even bother with iCloud any more?
Same problem here --their tech support just says server problem --- not sure when it will be back up.
This is not good when you depend on email for business
tough day for me, we are closing on a house next week, Literally hundreds of legal related emails going back and forth, not to mention my work. I'm out of the loop, and have had to switch to gmail. But notifying some of the parties and not knowing others has been a nightmare. I stopped at the apple store, while out - they had no idea. Some have service, others don't.

REALLY???? Well check this->
That's not a statistical graph. It's only a prognosis based on nebulous user reports. I have never had GMail unavailable. Perhaps slow at times. I would expect so today because it would appear the millions of iCloud users are flocking to GMail. They have not - to my recollection - had all-day outages like iCloud has in the past 6 months. This is #3 or 4. Worldwide outages, costing people time and money.
Google have their flaws and mis-steps (GoogleDrive being one of them). After search, mail is their forte. Apple have stumbled badly in their first steps in to cloud computing.
I did hear a rumour that iCloud is outsourced to GoDaddy so it might not be their fault. Perhaps it's time to re-evaluate that relationship if they are, in fact, the cause of the outages.
Been down since early this morning. I have spent the better part of the day setting up a new email account (gmail) and making changes to all of my visited sites. Crazy stuff.
This seems to be happening too often, lately. Not good service and very poor communication on the part of Apple.
When you check iCloud statis on the Apple site, they state "
Users Affected: Some" Really--some--seems like most of the country!
