Q: Import window broken

Hello,

I have tried to import something and believe the import function is now broken.

Aperture somehow thinks that the camera is still plugged in and neither the camera icon on the top left or any of the preview import icons (which are blank) can be deleted.   What Aperture is doing is it's trying to re-upload all the previews from the camera each time I click on "Import" even though nothing is plugged in.

It is not possible to fix using any of the three options listed when you hold down the command and option keys while opening Aperture.

I've also tried repairing the OSX permissions, and everything listed here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805

I have not un-installed/ reinstaled Aperture but I do not want to do that.

I have another question which is: Does Aperture get confused when the number of files on the camera to be uploaded is too many?   There are over 1300 pictures on my camera and I am wondering if that many photos in one import got Aperture's signals crossed.

Aperture 3, Mac OS X (10.6.8), old school Mac Pro desktop

It shouldn't.  I'd be more worried about my camera properly using the card.  Do you reformat the card each time you clear it?  You should -- and always format storage with the OS that will be using it (in this case, the camera).

I've also tried repairing the OSX permissions, and everything listed here:

Just to confirm:  you have moved or deleting your Aperture preferences file, rebooted, and the problem persists?

Does the problem show up for other users on your system?

    Thank you for the input.
This was the first time using this card (32GB SDHC Sandisk Extreme, 45MB/s  "10") and before the glitch happening in Aperture I had imported a few samples from it, so I know that it's not the issue.

I think what happened is I unplugged the USB or quit Aperture while it was in the middle of scanning the card and that's when all **** broke loose.   It's like Aperture thinks the camera is permanently plugged into it and I can't get out of it... when you click on the Import arrow icon on the top left, you can see on the bottom right numbers start to count up "Import ___ files into a new project..."  It does this each time, even though no camera is plugged in, and all the preview icons in the import wndow are blank.

I have tried all of what you mentioned and more.  The ONLY thing I havent tried is uninstalling and reinstalling Aperture.  I'm worried that something willl happen to my adjustments, my library or any changes I made if I uninstall and re-install.  What is the safest way of restoring everything afterwards?   One more question... I am the only user of my computer.  For troubleshooting purposes, is it possible to save my library to a hard drive and connect my Library to someone else's Aperture on a different computer to see if the problem is still there?

I did format and test the card before using it.

Even updating to the latest version on Snow Leopard didn't help.
I think it's time to call in support.   This is one tenacious problem.

Well here is some strange news, my camera seems unable to communicate via USB... even with the included software that came with my 60D as well as iPhoto.  But this is not just with that one card I mentioned.   It is on all cards.. Lost in the abyss, I am.
