How can I switch from AT&T to Verizon when buying new phone through apple store

Just order a Veirzon phone... If you still have an unexpired AT&T contract, you'll have to pay an early termination fee or continue paying monthly service to AT&T until the contract expires.

If you want to keep the same number, go to a Verizon store...if you're thinking of odering a new phone...if/when a new iPhone is announced & want to keep the same number...I wouldn't count on that going smoothly.

Porting a number from AT&T to Verizon is a straightforward process. As long as the OP had the AT&T account number, it generally takes less than 10 minutes to complete. No reason for it not to go smoothly. 😉 It can be done at the time of purchase or, at any later time over the phone. If it's done later, the phone will have a new Verizon number until the port is initiated.

So, just to show my stupidity, what's an "OP." And, I'm gonna order my iPhone 5 and make the switch from AT&T to Verizon tomorrow. Any recommendations about whether to do it online through Apple or to just bite the bullet and go into a Verizon store? (And I plan to port my current number over, btw.)

OP = "original poster", i.e. the guy who started the thread. If it were me, I'd go to the VZW store if you want to keep your number.
