Playing .m3u in itunes - or other options?

I have downloaded a file with .m3u which is a radio stream, but can't play it in iTunes. Is there another way to do this? I don't have a url for the stream, just the .m3u download & it doesn't do anything.

It seems this is pretty old, but still, my Mac is not able to interpret the .m3u file. Fortunately, it is pretty simple to circumvent this:

Open your .m3u (preview will suffice) and double click the first url. For me, ITunes automatically opened and added the url on a new playlist named Internet Songs. The autoplay kicked and instantly I was able to listen to the selected Internet station.
