My iMac suddenly won't connect to the internet. It worked fine yesterday but when I turned it on and logged on today, the Airport turned on but I could not establish a wireless connection. The calendar and clock were also way out of whack.

My ancient iBook G4 still connects but not my iMac. I have gone through the Diagnostic procedure and reset my DSL modem at least a dozen times but still no connection.

I would appreciate any suggestions that might help reconnect.

Thank you, in advance.

Have you reset your router too and seen if it has up-to-date firmware? Also are you still really running 10.6.7 per your profile, if not please update the profile.

Actually, I'm running 10.6.8.  I have Verizon DSL. I reset my router a dozen times. Can't understand why my old laptop connects fine and the iMac won't. Also, the iMac's date and time function being out of whack doesn't make sense. I apologize that I'm not deeply tech oriented, as far as the inner workings go.

You did not answer any of my questions, please answer?

I'm running 10.6.8. I have a Verizon DSL modem. I've restarted it a dozen times. Connection is fine with my twelve year old iBook G4 and My wife's PC.

Did you use the Combo update installer? You can run it over the top of the lesser one which is also labeled 10.6.8.. For some reason they have bugs in the lesser one.

Thank you for the recommendation. After I figure out how to reconnect to the Internet, I will definitely install this update.  I've spent way too many hours fiddling with this. I'll give Verizon a call tomorrow to see if they have any ideas on how I can get connected again.

You can connect to the Internet with an Ethernet Cable, if you don't have one then download the file onto the PC, move it to a flash drive and move it from the flash drive to the Mac.

BTW you have mentioned restarting your modem but haven't said anythign about your router so I'm beginning to think you either don't know what a router is or  your modem is one that has a router integrated into it. If so these seem to be problematic too. Yes I totally got that you have other machien that are connecting but that doesn't necessarily mean the problem is with the iMac.
