CAN'T erase com.wondershare.helper_compact.plist no matter what !?...

hi guys

earlier today i installed a wondershare youtube download program called allmytube. it even comes w/ an uninstaller ..

fooled around with it for a while but came to the conclusion that i wasn't about to buy it WITHOUT being able to fully try the greyed out options of the trial version so...out came the uninstaller & away it went - good riddance...

after that & to make sure EVERYTHING related to it WAS gone i did as i usually do which is open a new Finder window, & write the app name in the search box, select the "+" next to the "save", under "Kind" i select "System files" & finally i select "are included"

this usually brings up EVERYTHING pertaining to an app & then some..

then it's just a question of selecting each file it shows that seems related, check the path to make sure it has something to do with what i uninstalled & only then do i trash them..

this time a file showed up which no matter what i do i can't select, can't move to the trash, shows NO PATH so i can't find it ( already looked EVERYWHERE for it to no avail... ) & i'm at a loss what to do , if this is serious or not or !?.....

please check the pics below :

here it shows the path....

User uploaded file

here it doesn't ..

User uploaded file

& when i press cmd + i it shows this :

User uploaded file

besides all this when i double click on it these come up :

User uploaded file

clicking on delete alias prompts the same dialog window again, clicking on fix alias opens a "Select New Original" window problem is there's NOTHING remotely related to Allmytube or Wondershare in my computer except for this seemingly ''invisible'' plist...

i also tried reinstalling the program again & removing it & it still did the same

any suggestions on how to get rid of this would be most welcome - so far the computer doesn't show any signs of it affecting it's smooth operation but why keep it ?

appreciate it, thanks

"Here" it really doesn't show the path but as long as you can see it do this...

Launch Terminal and at the prompt copy & paste

rm -f
then leave a space and drag the file into the Terminal window. It will complete the path. Press enter.

If that doesn't do it, then use

sudo rm -f

You will be prompted for your password, enter it ( it will be invisible) and press return.

hi macjack

1st of all many thanks for your fast response - this is so puzzling , it's driving me nuts !

the "here" file was just an example where i selected another file other than the offending one & in a way you're right, i had the window so small ( not to post an enormous photo.. ) that it ''collapses'' the path & only shows a series of folders separated by arrows but if i go there with the mouse & click on them they open to reveal their name so i DO manage to see it's path or better yet if i expand the window then this is how it shows :

User uploaded file

problem is that the stubborn file ( the one ending in .plist, highlighted on the second photo.. ) when selected DOES NOT show ANY semblance of a path ( collapsed or otherwise.. ) CAN'T be dragged ANYWHERE, opened, right clicked to "Move to Trash" - NOTHING !

thanks for your input..

Select  System Preferences Spotlight Privacy. The list of items excluded from Spotlight indexing is shown (it may be empty.) Click the plus (“+”) icon to add an item to the list. Select your home folder (under FAVORITES) and add it to the list. Then remove it from the list by selecting it and clicking the minus (“-“) icon.

Spotlight will rebuild the index. If you try to do a Spotlight search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, a pulsing dot will appear in the icon. When the dot disappears, the indexing is complete.

Follow the path to Safari/History and delete that folder. If the system doesn't let you, launch Terminal and at the prompt copy & paste

sudo rm -f

Then leave a space and drag the History folder to the Terminal window, it will fill in the path.

Press return.

You'll need to authenticate. YOur password will be invisible. Press return.

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.

Triple-click the line below to select it, then drag or copy the text — do not type it — into the Terminal window and press return:

find Library -name com.wondershare* -ls

The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.

Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot.

Linc

i did just that & Terminal gave me the following :

Last login: Wed Sep 12 01:42:32 on console

nunos-imac:~ nunobaptista$ find Library -name com.wondershare* -ls

find: Library/Saved Application State/com.yourcompany.StellarPhoenixMacDataRecovery.savedState: Permission denied

nunos-imac:~ nunobaptista$

does this make any sense to you/does it look as it "should" ?

cheers

yes Linc

that makes sense - when Terminal came back with the "StellarPhoenixMacDataReocvery" name i started thinking about it

you see i installed this app recently after a disastrous mistake where i sent to the Trash AND deleted a folder jam packed of important stuff & this app allowed me to retrieve at least around 90% of it or so

the thing is i had no idea it seems to keep some kind of record ( maybe to make it easier later to retrieve stuff if needed ?.. ) of what's in the computer or so...

anyway, now that i understand what it is i can put my mind at rest - i hate NOT understanding something

thank you VERY MUCH for yours & macjack's kind assistance

off to bed now ;-)
