i bought a ipod shuffle last year 3rd gen, latley its not been shuffling the podcasts, (it was before) so just assumed something was up with the ipod,
so went out and bought a new ipod 4th gen shuffle.
and that wont shuffle either.
so im guessing its something to do with the itunes settings somewhere but cant find anything anywhere.
any help would be great.

While listening to these podcasts, do you have the switch along the top of the unit set to Shuffle? When it is set to Shuffle, you will see green and the actual switch is all the way to your left.

So what order are the podcasts being played in your device? Are these podcasts in a particular playlist?

They are just normal, not in any playlist. They play in alphabetical order, I just sync them by adding them through my summery for my shuffle on iTunes .
That is very unsual... perhaps you can try a full restore of the device in iTunes. This process wipes all content from the device, resets all settings back to their defaults, and reloads a fresh copy of the iPod's software onto the device. This should help clear up any sort of corrupted data or software glitch your Shufle may be experiencing.

yes ive aready reset , but jsut seems strange that both ipod shuffles are doing the same thing, which makes me think its some sort of setting in itunes.

By a reset, do you mean a restore to factory setting as described in the article I linked above?
A setting in iTunes shouldn't affect the playback of the Shuffle unless you have playing contents on it through iTunes.

right ive sorted it, by fluke but its shuffling now.
i restord the ipod,
then added 4 music albums, (no podcasts just music)
played them for a few songs on shuffle, and they all shuffled.
then added podcasts and now they shuffle
