Q: I have just purchased an i pad some books I wish to download are not listed in i books; so I downloaded kindle/amazon to widen my choice. If I find what I want who will bill me apple or kindle?

I have just purchase an i pad - very new to using it. I have downloaded a couple of books from the store but wish to widen my choice by linking to amazon kindle. How will I be billed for purchases?Does the payment come out of my apple account or do I have to register with amazon as well to pay? I use gift cards as payment with apple.

iPad, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

If you want to buy ebooks from Amazon then you will need to create an account with Amazon and you will pay directly to Amazon for those purchases - you can't use your iTunes account or iTunes gift cards to purchase from them. Also you will need the Kindle app on your iPad to read Amazon's kindle ebooks - ebooks tend to have digital rights management on them which tie them to the store's own apps and ereaders, so Kindle books can only be read in Kindle apps/ereaders, and ibooks from Apple in the iBooks app.

Thank you for resolving my question re ibooks. I had downloaded the kindle app anyhow but was unsure how the purchasing was done. Many thanks.

I have another question. I was hoping to download i cloud in order to sync photos to the mac- my son informs me my mac is too old to upgrade to mountain lion. It's OSX 10.4.11 !!!

This is much more of a problem as I am an artist & want to use the i pad camera to photograph my paintings for a website. Anyhow he says I can use the plug that came with the pad - is that so? It has to have a USB on one end to do that- haven't checked that out yet. I presume if it does I most probably click on iphoto first.

You do use the cable that came with the iPad (the same as you use to connect to the wall charger) to copy photos from it to a computer (copying photos) - not sure whether that also has a minimum requirement of OS X 10.5.8 or whether that just applies to syncing. Try taking a photo and see if it your Mac recognises it when you attach the iPad to it - hopefully it will appear as a 'camera' in iPhoto, Aperture and/or Image Capture.
