use css for animations as much as possible. JS affects page-load time and makes for a sluggish read. the asset guide does a good job of outlining dos and don'ts and is probably a good starting point.

Hand code your epub using CSS to animate. I just finished a Children's Read Aloud eBook which is fully animated only using CSS.

Did I bang my head on the keyboard, use a few swear words, oh sure but I'm glad I did it. The problem I found was the animation information was all over the web and it didn't talk much about how to do it without using javascript.

What I know about javascript you can put on the head of a pin.

I kept digging until my I found out how to make my characters grow, move, fly in and out all while having the timing right for the automated page turning feature. It's not EZ but very doable.
