Kernel Panics on MacPro1,1 with Mac OS 10.7.4 (Lion)

Greetings Everyone! I am hoping you can help me understand the recent Kernel Panic occurring on a MacPro running Mac OS 10.7.4. The computer was recently formatted, installed (clean) Lion, used the Migration Assistant to only import the User's Home Directory and Computer Settings. I ran the computer for a couple days without any issues, then I moved the computer into another building and now it Kernel Panics three (3) times almost every 2-4 hours.

I have included the Kernel.panic output below, I'd like to know if this issue is hardware or software specific.

If you can provide any assistance or guidance, it would be greatly appreciated.

Machine check

uncorrected error

crashed in power management

This is a preponderence of evidence that you have suffered an uncorrectable RAM memory error.

Mac Pro 65lb tower uses Error Correcting Code (ECC) RAM memory, which stores 8 additional check bits with each 64-bit word. On read, the XEON Processor checks the check bits and has enough redundancy information to correct single-bit errors on the fly. Uncorrectable errors (such as most double-bit errors) cause a machine check to stop the machine before it propagates the error into the file system and poisons your data.

About This Mac > ( More Info ) > Memory ...

... provides additional insights. Any module listed at the wrong (too small) size has failed. Any module whose status is other than "OK" is suffering single-bit errors, and should be replaced as well.

Are the slots listed as "Empty" actually empty?

The rest does not appear to provide additional insight at this time, but may in the future.

I suggest you use the memory pane frequently to check your RAM. Often (but not always) modules that have double-bit errors show single-bit errors or size issues before the kernel panic.

--------

You could also pursue this problem more aggressively:

• If you were contemplating a memory upgrade that would retire some older modules, now might be a good time to do that.

• If you can remove half of the memory and run that way for a while, it may isolate the problem to one half or the other. Then you can halve the problem group and continue to isolate.
