How do I connect my late 2008 Aluminum MacBook to my HDTV using Mini Display Port to HDMI adaptor?

Have the adapter and HDMI hooked up and tv set to the correct input. MacBook recognizes the display and the screen flashes blue, but no signal is still displayed. How do I connect them? I just wanna watch some movies on my tv!!
