i just bought my macbook pro yesterday! i turned it on and started to configure it and after being fully charged i turned the power off. this morning it is still buzzing and is super hot. should i just take the battery out whenever i dont use it? this seems very inconvenient for a 2000+ dollar laptop 😟
You don't need to take the battery out. You have one of two problems.
1.) You intended to but really didn't shut the MBP off. If it was still on and crashed it would be superhot after all night.
2.) You have some sort of hardware problem. There have been reports where it seems like there is a problem with the temperature sensors in the machine. This is usually picked up by running the hardware test on the install DVD (insert DVD Install 1, Hold down "d" key and boot into the test).
How did you turn off the power? Did you use the Shut Down... menu item in the Apple menu?
There won't be any fans once it is shut off but it may take a while to shut down. You might want to watch and wait for the shutdown to be complete to make sure you don't have a software problem.
Once the MacBook Pro is shut down properly it won't wake up again unless you schedule a Start up or wake using the Schedule... button in the System Preferences, Energy Saver panel.
This is different from sleeping where many things could cause the MacBook Pro wake back up. If you unplug the MacBook Pro and close the lid, it should stay sleeping if it is working correctly. Even if you wake up the MacBook Pro in that state using the remote control for example, it goes back to sleep in about 5 seconds.
sorry this is what i meant to say. the same thing happened to me, the thing is that you shut it down but you close the lid right after you do it and it goes into sleep mode, you just have to wait so it can shutdown completely
Good observations. I shut the lid before it shut down completely when I left the office and took out an extremely hot notebook when I got home - I freaked out. I will now make sure it is shut off all the way before I close the top. Thanks all for your sleuthing.
