Have recently installed Mountain Lion, after which I consistantly get "NSURLErrorDomain error -1100" app 10 seconds after starting the program update function. Is this problem unique for my system or does anyone else experience this? Any clue how to fix?

Getting this same error...I certainly hope it's just due to iTunes update traffic and will be resolved in 24 hours. Very unlike Apple though.
I'm assuming that you're trying to get your hands on the new iTunes update. A lot of people are. Just give it 24 hours. It should clear up and we can download iTunes 7.0.
I'm getting the same thing on both my Macs. The server must be getting hammered with people checking for iTunes 10.7.
There are many people suffering from this problem right now. It's probably a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Try adding the DNS Servers: 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
Open System Preferences > Network > (Select your means of connecting to the network) > Advanced > DNS
Click the +
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
Changing DNS servers will not help. I'm having the same problem, and my logs don't show any indication of DNS lookup errors. My logs show a 503 error, which is a Service Unavailable error. See:

Glad other people are reporting this, I called Apple too. I thought it was a Itunes 10.7 issue and downloaded it again, but server error for app store and itunes

Server issues on Apples end, I tried trouble shooting on my end but no luck. Done for today, Im sure by tomorrow afternoon it will be fine
impatience got the best of me, still gettin the errors on the machie I upgrade to 10.7 itunes. very frusturating

True, I've tried this move, but my iTunes is on an external HDD. iTunes 10.7 will only download to an intel HDD.
