Q: iPod shuffle not being seen in iTunes.

Hi,

I've got a 2nd generation shuffle, I can not get it iTunes to see it except for a short time on the left pane then it disappears. I've got the latest

ITunes, am using Mountain lion. I've got it charging right now thinking it the battery might be dead. Anyone else have any ideas?
