Q: Assistance about cellular frequencies (iPhone 5, only)

I currently have an iPhone4 unlocked. I bought it in the UK and use a prepaid o2 simcard - this was all fine.

 

I have since moved to the US and my company bought me a T-Mobile US simcard, but with this, I can only get 2G network - Not a huge deal...

 

But as the iPhone 5 comes out shortly and I intend to upgrade, which version should I get to support my current networks (plus others if poss)

 

 

 

  • GSM model A1428*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE** (Bands 4 and 17)

 

  • CDMA model A1429*: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE** (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)

 

  • GSM model A1429*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE** (Bands 1, 3, 5)

 

 

I heard T-Mobile are messing with their networks, which means I should at least be able to get 3G, shortly (I think)

    Today the US apple store announced unlocked pricing but 'Apple Insider' stated:

     

    On Apple's iPhone comparison page, the company lists the prices of unlocked 16GB, 32GB and 64GB iPhone 5 models at $649, $749 and $849, respectively for the U.S. Pricing will be similar in Canada, where all iPhones are sold unlocked, at CAD $699, CAD $799, and CAD $899 for the same 16GB, 32GB and 62GB lineup, respectively.

     

    While the prices are out, Apple has yet to announce when the unlocked units will be available for sale, however The Verge has confirmed the handsets won't be available in the U.S. on launch day. This is standard operating procedure as Apple reserves unlocked iPhones for countries where it is the only model for sale, bringing in the unsubsidized devices for the domestic market a few weeks later.

    I did the research today and gathered the part numbers for the unlocked iPhones for sale in the US, Canada, and the UK.

     

    The US part numbers are guessed ...I based them on the Canadian part numbers (which historically coinside).

    The US and CA phones work on the GSM networks (AT&T)

     

    So if you are purchasing on Ebay ask for a screen shot of the phone with the part number (and serial number):
