why does idvd take 7 hours 30 minutes to burn a dvd, why does idvd take 7 hours 30 minutes to burn a dvd

Please help me? I have been trying to burn a dvd now for days and it has been a terrible feat. At first it would say that it was burned then eject the disc after around two hours. Now it is just saying that it will take 7 hours and 30 minutes. What can I do to fix this problem? Thanks Monique

Hi

Several reasons can do this

• Use of Antique Mac - My G3 took 30 hours to do a one hour DVD

• Start-Up Hard Disk to full - This needed space can not be addressed to other hard disks. I never go under 25Gb free space. If 5-1Gb iDVD get's stupidly slow and most often doesn't deliver but crashes.

• If Video material is a codec iDVD can not use - it tries to back convert into a codec that works - This can take eons of time as and result usually BAD to Worse than BAD.

These are the most common origin to this.

Thanks I have cleared my hard drive a bit and it took it down to a four hour burn, but I am not too hopeful because after 8 long hours the dvd shot out blank and it seems to get caught on the last minute that can take forever as it shoots out the dvd a minute before every time I try. It's driving me mad and hopefully having more GB will solve the problem, but I'd like to get the burn time back to an hour as it used to do.

Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality final product:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.

Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
