I think this is the million dollar question everyone is asking. Apple seems to be very unclear about this. IF they did not make this connector backwards compatible through the adapter, I will not be buying Apple products anymore...

Apple will miss you. There's no audio out of the dock.

Most stereo docks have an audio in for the male to male headphone cable, so I don't see how it's a deal breaker.

What exactly do you mean by that ,you have one or are you guessing

I'm talking about an Apple "Universal Dock" that I used with my 4th gen iPod Touch, which was then connected to my Hi-Fi system via the audio connector on the back of the dock. Worked perfectly!

Now when I mount the Lightning Adapter (to 30 pin) on the dock, and then my new 5th gen iPod Touch, there's no audio out of that dock audio connector.

just had a chance to test your test

I took both a Universal dock and an iPad dock

Added the 30 pin adapter plugged in to both ( one at a time)

plugged in my iPhone 5 and then attached the dock to an external speaker via the

3.5mm socket and the Aux in on the speaker

played music on the iPhone 5 and it played perfectly through the speakers trying both docs

So sorry the 30 pin to Lightning adapter DOES transmit music

if an ipod touch has been upgraded to iOS6, should it play music through a dock.

the dock registers that there is something connected cause it charges the ipod, but it will not play music- it says "No iPod connected", is this is security feature of iOs6?

ps- all normal ipods work on the dock still so its not a connector prob.
