Q: Audio meters works, but I can't hear no sound.

Hi,

I've just installed Final Cut Pro X (10.0.5) on OSX Lion.

I'm importing a bunch of videos I captured with my Canon 5D Mark II at 1920x1080 29.97 fps.

I am also importing an mp3 files.

When I skim over the thumbnals or the main song and video in the timeline, I can see the audio meters working and blinking, but I can't hear no audio.

If I import the same videos with iMovie I can hear the audio while I skim. Same with the rest of the computer audio.

Seems like Final Cut Pro is not outputting the audio in my headphones. Does anyone know if there's anything I have to switch?

Thanks,
G

Sound effects should look like this

You might try redownloading the application. You should be in 10.2.1.

    Hi Tom,

Yes mine look like this... however I was referring to the Sound FX Clips (howls, applause, sirens, foley, etc).

    NO screen shot?

if you can't hear them in FCP use reveal in Finder and see if you hear the audio with QuickView. If you do make a new admin user and see if FCP runs correctly there.

So, Tom...thanks for your reply and help again.

I tried opening the sounds through a Finder window.  When I double-click on the sound, a Quicktime window opens and the sound plays only if I press the "Play" button in the Quicktime window.

I then created another Admin account, logged off, and logged in through the new Admin account.  I opened FCP, and everything works fine when using FCP in that Admin account!

However, I would really like to use my original admin account with FCP (don't feel like going through all the hassle of creating similar settings and color calibration for the new Admin account).

What do you think is wrong with FCP in my original Admin account?

AT a guess I would suspect a conflict with an audio plugin.

Thank you, yet another. My clip was dim and there was no sound coming from it; selecting the clip and pressing "V" enabled both my audio and video.
