Can I buy an Iphone 5 from USA without contract?

So you see. An iphone 5 16GB is approx. $699!! And in the USA it's only $199. Since it shouldn't take over 2 hours to get to Seattle to buy a cheaper Iphone 5, I think it would be better buying it from USA. But I have a couple of problems:

How will the contract work, if it's an American company, will I still be able to get it to work in Canada?

Will there be any extra charge seeing it's going to be two different countries

If I buy it without contract (if I can), then will I be able to bring it to Canada and set of a contract here with the same iphone I bought from USA

And if there's anything you know, that will be best for me to know too please tell me. I have been waiting for Iphone 5 to come out, and I'm not prepared to pay over $700 because that's way overpriced compared to USA.

No, the $199 price is WITH a 2yr contract.

In addition to that, add tax (varies by state, county, and city), activation fees (most carriers charge $36), plus the monthly contract price for voice and data service which runs about $70-100 per month (plus taxes and fees). And if you want out of the contract to avoid the monthly fees, canceling within the first month requires returning the device, outside the first month requires a large ETF, $300+.

The non-subsidized prices for the iPhone 5 in the US are:

16GB $649.00

32GB $749.00

64GB $849.00

So is it really worth a 2hr drive to the US to save $50? Is it worth driving back to the US should something go wrong with the device? Keep in mind warranty and support are not International.
