Slow speed lightning

So why is the lightning cable so NOT lightning fast?

You might be connecting it to a slower USB port. For example, it might be a USB 1.1 port.


The lightning connection is USB 2.0, and so were the USB versions of the 30pin dock connector.


In short, when Apple said it's faster, it might be a little faster. Ultimately, and this is not the official word from Apple, it's more of a size related change than a speed related change. They say the change was to make it faster but there's no reason in the world they couldn't have made a 30pin dock connector even support USB 3.0. If anyone says otherwise, they're idiots 🙂


They made the change to fit in to a smaller/thinner package and it's less fragile than the 30pin dock connector.


I anticipate (from someone completely not associated with Apple except that I tend to enjoy their products) future versions of the devices using the Lightning Connector will support USB 3.0 without a physical change, but for now, it's just USB 2.
