My built-in sound option is gone.

I am having the same sound preferences problem it seems everyone else has had. My built-in output option is gone and I was just wondering if there is a quick fix, i.e. driver download, pram nvram reset, or if I should just do a factory reset. I am looking at losing some data but I think I can live with it....I cant live without my music.

Some answers for those who are curious.

I have Windows 7 loaded on VMware Fusion

I have previously had speakers/headphones/etc attached but I dont now.

I sometimes get the red optical light. Not always.

Reboot didnt fix it.

Anything is appreciated.
