accented characters automatically changed to Chinese characters in emails

Hello to all!

Every time I activate the Chinese Pinyin (semplified) International keyboard on my iPhone, any accented characters present in the emails I am sending, are automatically changed to Chinese characters.

This is a very annoying problem. Does any of you have any solution to suggest besides turning off the Chinese Pinyin (semplified) International keyboard anytime I don't need it?

Thanks.

Hi Tom,

I usually keep active the Italian, the English, the Chinese simplified and the Chinese Pinyin keyboards. But the problems happens even if I remove the Italian keyboard.

The strange is that if I forward or reply to email containing accented characters these get changed to Chinese as well.

If I remove the Chinese Pinyin keyboard the problem disappear in once.

This happen consistently all the times.

Correct! I use the "globe" key to switch among keyboard when I need it and English or Italian to make accented characters.

All characters appears displayed correctly before the email is sent.

I did some further checks and discovered that actually arise sometimes when some email Outlook 2003 client is involved in the replies back and forth. Under certain circumstances the font is changed to Sinsum and the accented chars are displayed as...

à è é ì ò ù

脿 猫 茅 矛 貌 霉

Any clue?

Tks.

I think Outlook 2003 has bugs that cause this, and unfortunately there is nothing you can easily do about it from an iPhone, because you cannot adjust encodings. You could try to include a Unicode dingbat in every message and see if that makes a difference (e.g. copy/paste this one: ✉ ) .

Here is an old note that may help explain the problem:
