iPhone 5 shipping

I ordered an i5 early (4:30AM, EST) using the app. It was quick and easy. I have a question about the shipping. My confirmation says "available to ship: 2 weeks."

I suspect that this is a standard response until they match first-day orders with inventory, then they will give a specific date (hopefully the 21st).

Does anyone know what this means?

The site came up for people at different times. I waited 15 minutes before I reset the cache of Safari and it came up for me.

Apple was also taking orders through the Apple Store App on iOS devices.

Initial launch day inventory typicall sells out quickly. It's not poor planning, it's an issue of supply and demand. The demand is too high for what they are able to supply at the moment.

Keep in mind, the iPhone isn't only used in the United States.

It's entirely possible for hundreds of thousands of devices to have been sold in those 30 minutes.

I think when you have a billion doallr company and you have data suporting past launch days volume, to push orders back 2 extra weeks (it says "ships in 2 weeks", does not include the 5 day delivery) = poor planning. It's not like they won't be able to move the extra inventory. If they don't have enough units on hand to satisy demand within the first hour that is a problem. And I don't think this is the first time the App store ISO device method for ordering was available and I'm pretty sure that this is not the first time it was offered outside the US. You hit the nail on the head....supply and demand. If they can't figure out by now the heightened demand for a new iPhone release and not have enough product on hand to last at least a day, then don't take pre-orders until your supply reaches that level. 😉

I ordered via the Apple Store App (not to be confused with the App Store App) just before 7:00 AM EST this morning, whithout incident and I'm an AT&T customer. My order also says two weeks. I just figured it was the standard statement on the pre-order and I'd get an update when the phone ships. But I do agree with whoever wrote that if they sold out of the available launch day inventory in that short a time frame it is poor planning.

Seems like I was another lucky one(UK, GMT 0), I was refreshing every 15-20 mins on the way to work, between 6AM in the morning and 8:30AM, then waited around 30 mins, refreshed and the iPhone was available to pre-order, so I ordered it and it said "Delivers on 9/21", still currently says that.

Something strange though, if you try and track your Oder status( from the link in the order conformation email you get), it intermittently works, most of the time it says there was an error in your request, anybody else get this ?
